The original recipe of Żołądkowa Gorzka as we’ve known it for many years draws on a classic combination of bitter oranges, caramel and herbal undertones. Now, this unique concoction has been enhanced with natural fig extract - a fruit which takes pride of place in traditional Polish cuisine.
Żołądkowa Gorzka with Fig allows consumers to rediscover the distinctive sweet yet bitter taste of this classic liquor with a new twist. Figs have been a part of Polish culinary tradition for centuries. The earliest mentions of the fruit date back as far as the 14th century. However, the fig came to be a more regular feature on the tables of Poland’s royalty and the nobility due to the efforts of Queen Bona Sforza, the wife of Sigismund I the Old. She is famous for having brought all of the delicacies of Mediterranean cuisine over to Poland. In the 16th century large quantities of figs were imported to Poland for more than their exquisitely sweet but sharp taste. Historical sources reveal that figs were known for their beneficial qualities, prepared as part of meals or otherwise.
Żołądkowa Gorzka boasts a unique recipe which, based on traditional herbal liqueurs, has origins which date back to 1822. The different variations of this liqueur are concoctions of traditional ingredients with exotic fruits and spices which, when brought together, capture the taste of Poland’s culinary tradition. It is, therefore, only natural that Żołądkowa Gorzka now be made with figs, allowing consumers to rediscover the rich flavours and sweet aroma of the fruit.
Like all products in the Żołądkowa Gorzka range, this new variety with fig extract adheres to the longstanding recipe and traditional methods of production through liquoring and maceration. By adding new and unique ingredients to the recipe of a much-loved favourite, the Żołądkowa Gorzka brand continues to be as cherished by consumers as ever.
